Dental fillings shouldn’t be something to worry about. Dental fillings mean you’ve taken the right steps to remove tooth decay and replace it with another material, ensuring your teeth stay healthy and strong for years to come.

Today our team is going to show you three common filling options to help ease the stress of your appointment and give you some information you can speak to your dentist about.

1. Composite fillings

These fillings generally are referred to as tooth-colored fillings. These fillings are typically used in the front and back teeth for appearance reasons and are generally used for small to medium repairs.

These fillings can withstand moderate pressure from chewing and are a good choice for those who are looking for a more natural feel and look.

2. Dental amalgam

Often called, silver-colored fillings, amalgam fillings are made from a combination of metals that include mercury, silver, tin and copper. This method has been used for years by dentists for filling options. This filling tends to withstand pressure better and is a more affordable.

Silver fillings typically last for 10 to 15 years, outlasting composite fillings. Silver feelings aren’t typically used in front teeth, because they don’t match the natural tooth color.

3. Gold fillings

Inlays or onlays are often referred to gold fillings that are composed of gold, copper and other metals. This filling generally last for 20 years and is considered the most durable. Gold fillings typically take two appointments to be place because they require an impression of the tooth to manufacture in a lab.
